Survivor's Ready

We went to JB's and A's Vineyard near Young for the Moppity Pentathlon this weekend. I think they postponed the beginning of the harvest just to hold this major event (you know the one between Christmas and Easter). 5 families were supposed to attend, one scratched due to no show.

The Theme
5 events to showcase the work a viniculturist has to endure in making wine.

The Events

1. Plant a vine and train onto a wire - The simulated vine was a shirt with a stone/rope for root ball. We had to dig a hole, bury the root, train the shirt sleeves onto the vine. Water had to be obtained from a remote water source and bought back to the vine and the vine irrigated.

2. Spraying the vine - We were given green food dye in a spray bottle, the shirt which had the most coverage of green dye in 2 minutes was deemed the winner.

3. Picking of the grapes - Each family was given a lug (plastic bucket for grape picking) , we had to pick and fill the lug with grapes.

4. Juicing - With bare feet we had to squash the grapes and the winner was the one with the most siphoned juice after 2 minutes.

5. Blending of a wine - A blind choice of 5 wines presented, we had to create a wine and list the proportions of each blind wine used. The blended wines were then tasted by all the contestants and a winner chosen by the group.

Winner
T's Mob - what a surprise.

Quote from T ' The Winning Team would like to thank everyone for participating in a fun and sportsmanlike manner (except the D's who tried to cheat at every event besides the crush, where they got shafted - but that was Karma!) ' Tim - just to let you know we are happy with how we played the game.

The after dinner entertainment wasn't as bad as when it started, helped especially by D when he finally worked out how to turn the volume down not up, and T's rendition of the epic 'American Pie' was outstanding.

Thanks so much again to JB and A for organising events, food, accommodation and drink for the weekend, we all had such a wonderful time, although next time can you work out a way we can vote off T's Mob?
